J.C. Tran: Two-Time WSOP Bracelet and WPT Champion
POKER HALL OF FAME
Inducted 2014
J.C. Tran has spent more than two decades building one of the most complete tournament records of his generation. The Vietnamese-born American professional has won two World Series of Poker bracelets, two World Poker Tour titles and three WSOP Circuit rings while also reaching the final table of the WSOP Main Event.
Tran's career has extended from the height of the poker boom into the modern tournament era. He has succeeded in No-Limit Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha, major live championships and online poker, while remaining active enough to add another significant title in 2026.
As of October 19, 2026, The Hendon Mob lists Tran with $13,926,004 in recorded live tournament earnings. This is a gross-cashes total before buy-ins, expenses and taxes, rather than profit or net worth, and includes his summer WSOP results and RunGood Poker Series victory.
⠀
Who Is J.C. Tran?
J.C. Tran's full name is Justin Cuong Van Tran. He was born in Vietnam in 1977 and moved with his family to Sacramento, California, as a young child.
Tran later studied Business Management Information Systems at California State University, Sacramento. Poker became increasingly important during his college years, and he developed his game in Sacramento-area cash games before moving into tournament poker.
His rise coincided with the rapid expansion of televised and online poker during the 2000s. Rather than becoming known for one isolated result, Tran developed a record across several of poker's largest tournament platforms.
That record eventually included WSOP bracelets, WPT championships, a WPT Player of the Year award, a major online championship and one of the deepest WSOP Main Event runs of his career.
⠀
From Sacramento Cash Games to Tournament Success
Tran developed his early bankroll playing Limit Hold'em cash games in Sacramento before becoming a regular tournament competitor.
By the middle of the 2000s, he was appearing consistently near the top of major tournament fields. World Poker Tour events became particularly important to his early career, with repeated deep runs establishing him as a regular contender before he captured his first WPT championship.
His results during this period demonstrated a quality that would remain central to his career: Tran was not dependent on one tournament series or one format for his success.
⠀
J.C. Tran's WPT Titles and Player of the Year Award
The 2006-07 World Poker Tour season became one of the defining stretches of Tran's career.
He reached three WPT final tables during the season. After finishing sixth at the World Poker Open and runner-up at the L.A. Poker Classic, Tran broke through at the World Poker Challenge in Reno in March 2007.
The victory gave him his first WPT title and helped secure the Season V WPT Player of the Year award.
Tran eventually became a two-time WPT champion.
His second title arrived in March 2014 at WPT Rolling Thunder at Thunder Valley Casino Resort. Tran defeated a field of 465 entries in the $3,500 championship. The WPT's final-hand report lists a $302,750 award, including a $15,400 seat into the season-ending WPT World Championship.
Winning at Thunder Valley carried additional significance because the Sacramento-area property was part of Tran's home poker region. The victory also placed him among the tour's multiple-title champions.
⠀
How Many WSOP Bracelets Does J.C. Tran Have?
J.C. Tran has two World Series of Poker bracelets.
His bracelet victories came in two different forms of poker:
2008 — $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em
2009 — $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha
The first bracelet ended a lengthy stretch in which Tran had already accumulated major tournament results without winning a WSOP event.
A year later, he demonstrated his versatility by capturing the Pot-Limit Omaha title. Tran defeated a 436-player field to win the event and $235,685.
Those victories remain his two WSOP bracelet wins as of September 2026.
⠀
The 2013 WSOP Main Event Final Table
Tran's most valuable recorded live tournament score came at the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event.
He advanced through the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship and reached the nine-player final table with 38 million chips, the largest stack among the remaining players.
Tran returned for the November final table as the chip leader but ultimately finished fifth.
The result paid $2,106,893, which remains the largest live tournament cash listed on his record. Ryan Riess eventually won the championship.
Although Tran did not convert the chip lead into the Main Event title, reaching poker's most visible final table added another major achievement to a career that already included championships on the WSOP and WPT.
⠀
How Many WSOP Circuit Rings Does J.C. Tran Have?
J.C. Tran has three WSOP Circuit rings as of September 2026.
His third came at Thunder Valley during the 2019-20 WSOP Circuit season, when he won the $3,250 High Roller for $49,035.
Tran defeated WPT commentator and accomplished tournament professional Tony Dunst heads-up for the title.
The result also illustrated the changing direction of Tran's career. By that stage, he was playing a lighter tournament schedule than during his peak traveling years, while continuing to compete selectively in major events and tournaments closer to Northern California.
⠀
J.C. Tran's Online Poker Championship
Tran's tournament résumé is not limited to live poker.
In 2006, playing under the screen name "Area23JC," he won the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Main Event.
The victory was worth approximately $670,000 and came during an era when the WCOOP Main Event was one of online poker's most important annual championships.
Winning a major online championship alongside his live WSOP and WPT accomplishments added another dimension to Tran's career during a period when relatively few established live professionals had comparable championship-level results in both environments.
⠀
J.C. Tran's Playing Style and Poker Reputation
Tran's results show a tournament player capable of succeeding across different formats rather than a specialist dependent on one game.
Much of his largest-event success has come in No-Limit Hold'em, including his WPT championships, first WSOP bracelet and 2013 Main Event final table. His second bracelet in Pot-Limit Omaha demonstrated that his tournament success extended beyond Hold'em.
Longevity is another defining feature of his record.
Tran was already producing major tournament results during the early years of the poker boom, remained a championship threat through the following decade and has continued recording significant results more than 20 years after his first major live successes.
⠀
What Is J.C. Tran Doing Now?
Tran remains an active tournament player, although he no longer follows the heavy travel schedule associated with his earlier career.
His recent results confirm that he continues to compete at both the World Series of Poker and regional events.
At the 2025 WSOP, Tran cashed several times, including a fourth-place finish in the $1,500 Super Turbo Bounty for $88,865. He also cashed the 2025 WSOP Main Event.
Tran returned to the Main Event in 2026 and finished 992nd for $17,500 while adding additional WSOP cashes in Pot-Limit Omaha formats.
His most significant recent result came in August 2026 at Thunder Valley Casino Resort.
Tran outlasted 1,086 entries in the $1,200 RunGood Poker Series Passport Million Dollar Main Event, winning $163,760 from a $1,140,300 prize pool, according to the organizer's official results. The result added another championship to his résumé at a property closely associated with his later career.
PokerNews reported after the victory that Tran's priorities have changed from the years when he traveled regularly from tournament to tournament. Family now occupies a larger part of his life, while poker remains something he continues to play selectively.
The distinction is important: Tran has reduced his tournament volume, but his 2025 and 2026 results show that he remains an active competitor rather than a retired player.
⠀
J.C. Tran's Place in Poker
J.C. Tran's career connects several important periods in modern tournament poker.
He emerged during the poker boom, became WPT Player of the Year, won championships live and online, collected bracelets in two poker variants and reached the WSOP Main Event final table before shifting toward a more selective tournament schedule.
More than two decades after his early tournament breakthrough, he was still winning seven-figure-prize-pool events in 2026.
That longevity makes Tran's record broader than any single title. His career includes success across the WSOP, WPT, WSOP Circuit, online championship poker and regional tournament competition, giving him a résumé that has remained relevant through major changes in the tournament landscape.
