The official WSOP report on John Cynn's 2018 Main Event victory records 7,874 entries and a $74,015,600 prize pool. Cynn advanced to the nine-player final table and ultimately reached heads-up play against Tony Miles.
Their heads-up match lasted more than 10 hours and 199 hands. Neither player quickly separated from the other, turning the final stage of the championship into an extended battle rather than a short conclusion.
Cynn eventually won the final pot and collected $8.8 million, while Miles finished second for $5 million.
The victory gave Cynn his first WSOP bracelet and made the $8.8 million payout the largest recorded live tournament cash of his career.

Cynn's poker background also extends well beyond tournaments. When PokerNews interviewed Cynn during the 2026 WSOP, he said he had reduced the amount of poker he played but still played a meaningful amount of cash poker, describing most of his current play as cash games.
His tournament results nevertheless show experience across several formats. In addition to his no-limit hold'em résumé, Cynn has recorded significant results in short deck and no-limit 2-7 lowball.

Cynn's Tournament Schedule After Becoming World Champion
Winning the Main Event did not lead Cynn to adopt a high-volume tournament schedule.
He recorded several notable finishes after the 2018 championship, including fourth place in a $25,000 high roller in Brazil in 2019 and runner-up in a $25,500 short deck event in Sochi in 2020.
Tournament appearances then became increasingly uncommon.
Cynn cashed the 2022 WSOP Main Event in 550th place for $25,500. He did not record another live tournament cash until June 2026, when his deep run in the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship ended the gap.
PokerNews reported during that tournament that Cynn no longer considered tournament poker an important part of his everyday life. He said he continued playing cash games and remained particularly drawn to the WSOP Main Event.
