2027 MSPT Showdown Series — Bally’s Black Hawk Tournament Guide

The 2027 MSPT Showdown Series is scheduled for January 6–17 at Bally’s Black Hawk Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. The Major Series of Poker: The Tour (MSPT) has listed the event with a $300,000 guarantee, bringing another major tournament series to one of Colorado’s established poker destinations.

The Showdown Series combines the MSPT's traveling tournament format with Bally’s Black Hawk’s year-round poker operation. Players planning to participate should pay particular attention to the Main Event schedule, available starting flights, and registration deadlines once the complete tournament structures are published.

⠀

2027 MSPT Showdown Series Overview

The MSPT Black Hawk Showdown Series returns in January 2027 following previous appearances at Bally’s Black Hawk, including the January 2026 festival.

Confirmed event information includes:

• Tournament series: MSPT Showdown Series

• Dates: January 6–17, 2027

• Venue: Bally’s Black Hawk Casino

• Location: Black Hawk, Colorado

• Advertised guarantee: $300,000

• Minimum player age: 21

• Tournament organizer: Major Series of Poker: The Tour (MSPT)

The tournament takes place at Bally’s Black Hawk, a longtime destination for Colorado poker players and visiting tournament competitors.

The detailed 2027 event schedule has not yet been confirmed. Players should consult the official MSPT tournament calendar for the Showdown Series listing and access to the event schedule as it becomes available.

⠀

MSPT Showdown Series Schedule

The scheduled January 6–17 festival provides a tournament window extending across two weekends.

The complete 2027 schedule will determine which days feature preliminary tournaments, satellites, Main Event starting flights, and final-day play.

Until that document is available, players should avoid assuming that the schedule or tournament formats will match previous MSPT visits to Black Hawk.

The official schedule is especially important for players traveling to Colorado for specific events. Tournament start times, registration deadlines, starting stacks, and blind structures can vary substantially between tournaments within the same series.

For the event-by-event listing, visit the official MSPT Showdown Series event calendar.

⠀

MSPT Showdown Series Main Event

The Main Event is expected to be the central attraction of the Showdown Series, based on the tournament’s previous editions.

MSPT currently advertises a $300,000 guarantee for the upcoming Black Hawk stop. The complete 2027 Main Event details, including its buy-in and individual prize-pool guarantee, require confirmation from the official tournament schedule.

⠀

Main Event Format and Starting Flights

Previous MSPT Main Events at Bally’s Black Hawk have used multiple starting flights before bringing advancing players together for a concluding day.

For the 2027 edition, players should confirm the following information from the official tournament structure before registering:

• Main Event buy-in and entry fees

• Starting-flight dates and times

• Initial starting stack

• Blind and ante levels

• Late-registration closing time

• Re-entry and advancement rules

• Day 2 start time and tournament structure

These details affect preparation, scheduling, and tournament strategy. Players entering more than one flight should review the official advancement rules rather than assuming the same policies apply at every MSPT stop.

What Happened at the 2026 MSPT Black Hawk Showdown Series?

The previous January edition provides useful context for the level of competition the Showdown Series can attract.

The 2026 festival ran January 14–25 at Bally’s Black Hawk and featured a $1,110 MSPT Main Event with a $300,000 guarantee.

The Main Event attracted 528 entries across three starting flights, generating a $508,720 prize pool.

Vincent "Vinny" Moscati won the championship, collecting $107,376 and his first MSPT Main Event title.

The festival also featured a $400 Mini Main Event with a $100,000 guarantee and a broader lineup of preliminary tournaments.

These figures describe the completed 2026 series, not confirmed buy-ins, prize pools, or structures for January 2027.

Players interested in past tournament results can review the official MSPT Bally’s Black Hawk Main Event recap.

⠀

Satellites and Preliminary Events

The Showdown Series has previously offered lower-buy-in tournaments and qualifying satellites alongside its Main Event.

During the January 2026 festival, the schedule included a Mini Main Event, nightly No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, milestone satellites, Pot-Limit Omaha, mixed formats, and other preliminary events.

The 2027 lineup has not yet been confirmed, so these previous offerings should be treated as historical examples rather than scheduled events.

For players interested in qualifying for the Main Event, the official satellite schedule will be particularly important. Satellite entry prices, seat-award procedures, and qualification rules must be checked separately from the Main Event structure.

⠀

Registration and Tournament Rules

Tournament registration takes place through the host poker operation, subject to the rules established for each event.

Bally’s Black Hawk publishes general tournament registration procedures through its official poker-room website. Its regular guidance states that registration opens one hour before single-day events and two hours before multi-day events.

Special MSPT tournament procedures may differ, and the 2027 series-specific registration rules have not yet been verified.

Players should confirm tournament registration details directly with the poker room before arriving.

The venue also states that its regular multi-table tournaments use a big-blind ante format unless otherwise specified. Players should rely on the individual MSPT structures for the final rules governing Showdown Series events.

For current venue information, visit the Bally’s Black Hawk official poker page.

Playing Poker at Bally’s Black Hawk

Bally’s Black Hawk operates an established live poker room at its Black Hawk West property.

The venue lists 17 poker tables, with an additional five-table overflow area available during tournaments.

That capacity helps accommodate the larger fields associated with traveling tournament series, although the specific table allocation for the 2027 Showdown Series has not been announced.

Players looking for ring games outside their tournament sessions can consult the venue’s poker room for current game availability and seating information.

For an introduction to the casino’s poker operation, table games, and tournament environment, see the official Bally’s Black Hawk poker room information.

Tournament Preparation and Strategy

A multi-day tournament festival presents different challenges from a regular daily tournament.

Players considering the 2027 MSPT Showdown Series should prepare for longer sessions, changing table dynamics, and potentially large tournament fields.

⠀

Review the Tournament Structure

Starting stacks and blind levels determine how quickly a tournament develops.

Before entering, players should understand the number of big blinds available at the beginning of play and how quickly those blinds will increase.

Readers looking to strengthen their tournament fundamentals can review Blinds, Antes & the Dealer Button Explained.

⠀

Build a Realistic Tournament Budget

Players should account for entry fees, possible re-entries, and the number of events they intend to play.

A guarantee does not indicate what an individual player should expect to win, and tournament prize distributions depend on entries and the official payout structure.

Deciding on a tournament budget before the first event can help players avoid making unplanned entry decisions after an elimination.

⠀

Adjust to Stack Depth and Position

Tournament strategy changes as blinds increase and average stacks become shorter.

Early levels may provide more opportunities for deeper-stacked decisions, while later levels often place greater emphasis on preflop hand selection and position.

For a refresher, see Poker Position Explained and Preflop Poker Strategy for Beginners.

⠀

Plan for Long Tournament Sessions

Players traveling to Black Hawk should allow enough time for check-in, registration, meals, and tournament breaks.

Black Hawk’s mountain location also makes monitoring winter road and weather conditions important during a January tournament.

Any player intending to enter a specific starting flight should verify the final schedule and registration deadline before traveling.

⠀

Following the MSPT Showdown Series

The MSPT regularly provides event information, live reports, chip counts, and tournament results through its official website.

These resources are useful for players following the Main Event, checking tournament outcomes, or reviewing previous championship results.

The January 2027 Showdown Series is scheduled to bring another MSPT festival to Bally’s Black Hawk, with a $300,000 advertised guarantee.

The next important step for prospective participants is the release of the complete tournament schedule, including Main Event buy-in, starting flights, individual structures, and registration rules.

Players can follow developments through the official MSPT website and confirm local tournament arrangements with Bally’s Black Hawk Poker.
