Club Wyndham Desert Rose Resort is a non-gaming, condo-style resort just east of the south end of the Las Vegas Strip at 5051 Duke Ellington Way. The property is close enough to reach MGM Grand on foot while providing a quieter setting away from a casino floor.
Accommodations are built around one- and two-bedroom condo suites rather than conventional hotel rooms. One-bedroom units are approximately 650 square feet and sleep up to four, while two-bedroom units are approximately 900 square feet and sleep up to six. Full kitchens, separate living areas and private balconies make the property particularly practical for longer stays and travelers who want the option to prepare meals between poker sessions.
On-property amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, fitness center, barbecue area, convenience store, coin-operated laundry facilities, business center, concierge services, free Wi-Fi and an on-site bar. Free self-parking is another useful distinction from many major Strip resorts.
For poker travelers, the strongest location advantage is MGM Grand, which is roughly an eight-minute walk from the resort and operates a 24-hour poker room. The nearby MGM Grand Monorail station also provides a practical transportation option for reaching the Horseshoe/Paris area without relying on a car. The resort therefore works best as a South Strip poker base rather than as a walkable hotel for northern Strip rooms such as Venetian or Wynn.
Guests booking during the current stadium-development period should also be aware that Club Wyndham says construction of the new Athletics ballpark is taking place directly next to Desert Rose Resort and may create dust, noise and road-access disruptions through early 2028.

Why Players Like This Hotel
Desert Rose Resort is most useful to poker players who want affordable-feeling condo-style accommodations near the South Strip without staying inside a casino resort.
MGM Grand is the clear primary poker destination from the hotel. The walk is approximately eight minutes under normal conditions, making Desert Rose convenient for early tournament starts and especially useful after a late cash-game session when avoiding a rideshare is desirable. MGM Grand currently advertises its poker room as open 24 hours.
Horseshoe Las Vegas is not realistically walkable for most players from Desert Rose, but it is considerably more practical than the distance suggests because the MGM Grand Monorail station is nearby. The monorail runs directly from MGM Grand to the Horseshoe/Paris station, which is located inside Horseshoe and provides access to the Hall of Fame Poker Room. This can make Desert Rose a workable base for players dividing time between MGM Grand and poker at Horseshoe, although the walk through MGM Grand to the station and monorail operating hours should be factored into very early starts or sessions ending after train service stops.
The Venetian and Wynn poker rooms are farther north and should not be treated as normal walking destinations from Desert Rose. The Venetian is roughly a 36-minute walk and Wynn about a 42-minute walk. Both are reachable by rideshare, and the monorail can reduce some of the Strip travel, but players concentrating primarily on either property will generally find more convenient lodging closer to those rooms.
The full kitchens are a meaningful advantage on multi-day poker trips because players can keep groceries, drinks and simple meals in the suite instead of relying on casino restaurants for every meal. MGM Grand also provides substantial nearby dining access. Free self-parking can add value for players with a vehicle, particularly compared with Strip resorts that charge daily parking fees.
The main drawback is that Desert Rose is not physically connected to a casino or poker room, so every session requires at least a short outdoor walk. Players should also consider the current Athletics stadium construction beside the resort, which Club Wyndham says may produce noise, dust and road closures through early 2028. That may matter to tournament players trying to sleep during the day after late-night sessions.
