2027 MSPT Missouri Poker State Championship at Ameristar St. Charles

The 2027 MSPT Missouri Poker State Championship returns to Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles from January 26–31, 2027. The six-day poker festival is part of Major Series of Poker: The Tour (MSPT) and features a $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

Located in St. Charles, Missouri, near St. Louis, Ameristar hosted the Missouri Poker State Championship in March 2026. That event drew 528 Main Event entries and awarded $107,691 to champion Mike Estes.

The January 2027 edition gives regional tournament players and traveling MSPT competitors another opportunity to compete for the Missouri state championship title.

The MSPT has confirmed the dates, venue, and $300,000 guarantee. Players should consult the official MSPT tournament calendar for the complete event schedule, Main Event structure, registration information, and updates.

Main Event: $300,000 Guaranteed

The main attraction of the 2027 Missouri Poker State Championship is its $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

The guarantee establishes the advertised minimum prize pool under the tournament organizer's official terms. The eventual prize pool may exceed that amount if sufficient entries are recorded.

The Main Event buy-in, starting flights, chip stacks, blind levels, and registration rules for January 2027 have not yet been independently verified.

For context, the March 2026 Missouri Poker State Championship featured a $1,110 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event with three starting flights and a combined final day.

That tournament used 30,000-chip starting stacks, 40-minute blind levels, and unlimited re-entry until the beginning of Level 13.

Those details describe the previous championship. Players should not assume the January 2027 edition will use identical rules.

Important Main Event information to confirm before entering includes:

• Official buy-in and tournament fees

• Starting flight dates and times

• Starting chip stack

• Blind and ante levels

• Late-registration cutoff

• Re-entry rules

• Day 2 qualification procedures

• Final-day starting time

• Payout structure

Tournament Schedule and Preliminary Events

The 2027 Missouri Poker State Championship runs January 26–31.

The complete event-by-event schedule and individual tournament structures have not yet been independently verified for this guide.

Previous MSPT festivals at Ameristar St. Charles have included several formats beyond the Main Event.

The March 2026 Missouri Poker State Championship featured:

• No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack tournaments

• A Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em tournament

• A Seniors tournament

• Pot-Limit Omaha

• Main Event satellites

• Additional preliminary No-Limit Hold'em tournaments

These events provide historical context and are not a confirmed lineup for January 2027.

Players interested in participating in multiple tournaments should review the official schedule once available, paying particular attention to overlapping events, starting times, and potential Day 2 commitments.

For the complete upcoming lineup, consult the official MSPT tournament calendar and event schedule.

⠀

Main Event Satellites

Satellite tournaments have been part of previous Missouri Poker State Championship festivals.

Satellites give players an opportunity to compete for Main Event entry through tournaments with smaller buy-ins.

At the March 2026 championship, the schedule included $135 and $265 satellite options.

The January 2027 satellite buy-ins, dates, qualification formats, and number of seats awarded have not yet been independently confirmed.

Players considering satellites should review the official rules for each event, including starting stacks, blind levels, registration deadlines, and seat-award procedures.

Satellite strategy can differ significantly from conventional tournament strategy because the primary objective may be to qualify for a seat rather than accumulate every available chip.

⠀

Registration, Late Entry and Re-Entry Rules

Players should verify the registration and re-entry rules for each tournament before arriving at Ameristar St. Charles.

Late registration can affect effective starting-stack depth, while re-entry policies determine whether eliminated players can enter again.

The March 2026 Missouri Poker State Championship Main Event permitted unlimited re-entry until the beginning of Level 13.

That previous policy does not confirm the registration rules for January 2027.

Before choosing a Main Event flight, players should determine:

• When registration opens

• When late registration closes

• Whether re-entry is permitted

• Whether players can enter multiple starting flights

• Whether advancing players may compete in another flight

• How starting-flight chip stacks carry forward

• When surviving players must return

The official tournament structure will govern these conditions.

Players intending to compete in several events should also allow for possible scheduling conflicts if they advance deep into a preliminary tournament.

Previous Missouri Poker State Championship Results

The March 24–29, 2026 Missouri Poker State Championship was the MSPT's first tournament series at Ameristar Casino St. Charles.

The festival featured ten Gold Card events and a $1,110 Main Event with a $300,000 guarantee.

Across three starting flights, the Main Event attracted 528 entries and generated a $512,160 prize pool.

Mike Estes of Coralville, Iowa, emerged as the champion, winning $107,691 and his second MSPT title.

Estes had previously captured the 2025 Iowa Poker State Championship at Riverside Casino.

According to the MSPT, his Missouri victory made him the second player in tour history to win two different state championship titles, joining Umut Ozturk.

The 2026 result provides useful context for the returning tournament. However, previous attendance does not establish what the January 2027 championship will attract.

⠀

Tournament Strategy and Preparation

Players preparing for the January 2027 Missouri Poker State Championship should consider the tournament structure, their available bankroll, and the time required for a potentially multi-day event.

⠀

Review the Main Event Structure

Once the official structure is available, compare the starting stack with the opening blinds and examine how quickly the blinds increase.

A deeper starting structure generally allows more postflop play, while shorter effective stacks place greater importance on preflop decision-making.

Players can review Poker Position Explained and Preflop Poker Strategy for Beginners when preparing for different stages of tournament play.

⠀

Establish a Tournament Budget

Calculate the total cost of planned entries, including any satellites or preliminary events.

If re-entry is permitted, decide in advance how many entries fit within an acceptable tournament budget.

Avoid planning expenses around an assumed payout. Even experienced tournament players can go through extended periods without a significant cash finish.

⠀

Plan for Multiple Playing Days

A deep tournament run may require players to return on a subsequent day.

Before finalizing travel plans, confirm the Main Event starting-flight schedule and the date and time of any combined final day.

Leave sufficient flexibility for advancing in a tournament, particularly if the official schedule includes overlapping preliminary events.

⠀

Practice Pot Odds and Drawing Decisions

Tournament poker frequently involves decisions about draws, bet sizes, and the relationship between a potential reward and the cost of calling.

Players looking to improve those decisions can review Poker Pot Odds Explained and Poker Equity Explained.

Understanding those concepts can help players evaluate difficult situations without relying solely on intuition.
