Nick Seward Wins Poker Masters Event 9 for $412,500
Nick Seward earned his first PokerGO Tour title on October 22, winning $412,500 in Poker Masters Event 9 after defeating Daniel Negreanu heads-up at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.
The $26,000 no-limit hold’em tournament drew 50 entries and paid eight places from a $1.25 million prize pool. Negreanu received $262,500 for second.
A first title with the series still undecided
The result changed Seward’s position in the Purple Jacket race. The official PGT report credited him with 248 points for the victory, taking his series total to 397 and moving him into third place.
Across four cashes, Seward had collected $578,500. He stood 54 points behind leader Adrian Mateos, whose total remained 451 after Event 9. Those were interim standings, with the final tournament still to settle the overall championship.
How the heads-up match turned
Negreanu entered the final day with the chip lead and remained ahead when the tournament reached its last two players. Seward had to work through an extended heads-up match rather than finish the job with one early double-up.
PokerNews’ live reporting described a contest lasting about two hours. Seward moved ahead after flopping four kings, then increased the pressure when his full house beat Negreanu’s flush. Negreanu folded to the river raise in that second pot, but the earlier bets had already reduced his stack.
The final hand put Negreanu’s king-ten against Seward’s king-jack. A nine-three-three-five-seven board left Seward’s higher kicker playing and ended Negreanu’s bid for the title.
One event remains
The ten-event Poker Masters concludes October 23 with its $51,000 finale. The series champion receives the Purple Jacket and a $25,000 PGT Passport. The event win put Seward in contention; it did not decide that separate award.
